NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Sexual and reproductive rights have been recognized by the international community and the human rights declarations, conventions and covenants of the United Nations and various international bodies like the Organization of the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO) or the European Union (EU). The first treaty to expressly recognize the human rights of women was the "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women" (CEDAW), adopted by the UN in 1979.

The concept of sexual and reproductive health was incorporated for the first time in the United Nations, in the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo in 1994, where the discourse on human rights is linked theoretically to the right to health.

Coordinated by the Observatory for Women's Health of the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality, this Strategy is the result of the consensus of scientific and professional societies, social organizations, the user population, experts and representatives of the Autonomous Regions.
